The lastyear’s Committee are requested to meet the same evening at 7 p.m. As a wind-up to the Three Mile Sports on Friday, a dance will he held in the Three Mile Hall when an excellent ending to a good day's.sport is assured patrons. The music for the dam e is in tin* ca[:able hands of the recently formed Christie Orchestra. Popular prices. The prospects for the Westland Pacing Club’s meeting on Thursday are considered very promising. The large entries suggest good fields. and as everything is in first class order at the racecourse, good racing should result. The first race is set down to start at lg. [., o'clock mi Thursday. The programme includes two trotting events, so that there will he variety in the afternoon's snort. A number of owners and riders attending the Christchurch meeting which concludes to-day will he arriving for the Hokitika meeting to-morrow. Among the number, also, will he the starter. The fireballs rang out an alarm o'f fire this morning at 11.15., o’clock tin scene of the outbreak being an old stable in upper Revell Street, above Tudor Street, owned by Mr W. Hall. The funeral of the late Mr Isaac Bro wn took place on'Sunday’afternoon, and the very large concourse of mourners that attended marked the high esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. Members of the Freemason’s Lodge and the Druids’ Lodge attended in strong force in their official regalia and there was. a long string of mourners on foot and in motor cars. The service at All Saints’ f Church was conducted impressively by Rev. Nelson Wright, who also conducted the Anglican service at the graveside, where in addition the Masonic .Service was given l<y Bros Preston, ..nowles-Sinith and Hayward, while t;he Druids’’service was read by Bro. J. J. Williams. A large number of floral tributes were laid on the grave from sympathising friends. A fatal motor accident occurred on .Ml lid ay afternoon about half a mile from Nelson Creek on the road between that township and Ngahcre. A party of four, tompiising Mr William i Kim”) teller, of Xgahere, his son, and Messrs Joseph Campbell and Knox , Harper, all of Ngahcre, were returning Lo Ngahere, when the car, a new Chev-f» rolct, skidded on some loose shingle, A and capsized, pinning d>wn all of the “ occupants, as well as smashing the fiord, steering wheel, mudguards and wind screen. Three of the occupants extricated themselves, the driver having an injured arm, and one of the others some bruises; but they found that Mr Fletcher, senr., had his head pressed against bis chest, and could not be extricated without the car 1 eing lifted. When extricated Mr Fletcher was dead, the cause of the fatality being the breaking of bis neck, and death doubtless was instantaneous.
