Titov stst<jco<l a mock trial at a Central Otago township recently. Ihe prisoner was—Tohacco. There was a judge and jury and a large attendance ol the pnhlic. .Many witnesses were called, and counsel having addressed the Court the judge summed up. He said accused (represented by a wellknown local resident), had hosts of friends and many enemies. He was accused of being a poisoner. But when tobacco poisoned people it was their own fault—they smoked tlio wrong kind. Imported ' tobacco was mostly full of nicotine and therefore highly injurious. Happily, however, there were other kinds—those produced in New Zealand, for example. These were practically free from nicotine, owing to the toasting process and couldn’t hurt anybody. The (piestion the jury had to decide was: “Is tobacco guilty or not guilty of poisoning its devotees ? ,r The jury found a verdict o! “Not guilty” as far as toasted tohacco is concerned, without leaving the box. “Biverhead Child,” “Cavendish,” “Navy Cut” and “Cut Plug No. 10” are all toasted.—Advt.
