ILLICIT RUM MAKING

SIDNEY, March 27
Frederick Ross, convicted of illicit rum making at Glebe, was fined £b2b. with costs, this being his second offence.
The police stated that defendant’s plant was capable'of making two gallons of rum per day. The spirit was considerably ovorproof. Defendant is to remain in gaol till the fine is paid. SYDNEY SHOW. ). SYDNEY, March 27. The Royal Show was opened to-day in ideal weather, the horses furnishing the principal attraction to-day with ring events. The show in all its phases is declared to equal anything ever seen.
SYDNEY TIMBER, MEN. PROCESSION TO DOMAIN HELD. SYDNEY, March 27. Mr Jock Garden, Secretary of the Trades Hall Council, informed the Police Commissioner this afternoon that the hallo.t-burning and effigy-burning episode that lmd been arranged for to-night will not occur. The Police Commissioner thereupon gave permission for the conduct of a procession of the timber men from the Trades Hall to the Sydney Domain at--8 o’clock, on the understanding that there would he no lawlessness, which the police will not tolerate. Mr Garden gave tlie necessary assurance.
A Conference of Union delegates was opened to-day at Sydney to discuss the timber dispute.
STRIKE BREAKER ATTACKED SYDNEY. March 27
A timlier worker last night was attacked by nine men, lie says, who savagely kicked, injured and robbed him of papers, and threatened to murder him- if they caught him again.
