The Government inquiry into the cash order system oi trading was concluded in Auckland to-day, and the members of the commission, Hon. J. {!. C’obhe (.Minister of Industries and Commerce), and -Mr .!. W. Collins iSecretary of the Department); having heard evidence in the four main centres, will now prepare a report lor submission to Cabinet. Representatives of- the National t'mined of Women said that tint Council as a body was definitely opposed to the cash order system ol trading. which was considered to lie expensive to the borrower, to bo breaking down the integrity of the people, to be opposed to thrift, and to be a factor in the increasing cost of living. The Council felt definitely that the Government should legislate the cash order system out of existence. The social workers of the Council were convinced that the system was most pernicious. Many cases of distress, due to the system had come under their notice. An agent spoke strongly in lavour of the cash order system from present observation and from experience gained during ,visits to thousands ol homes in Auckland.
