COASTAL ROUTE

CHRISTCHURCH. March 27
Hon Mr Forbes and Hon Mr Veiteli to-dav inspected the coastal route for tb e gap of 73 miles in tho South hsland Main Trunk, railway, between Parnassus and Wharnnui. Mr Forbes stayed at bis homo at Cheviot. Mr Veiteli came to Christchurch, and caught the terry steamer tor Wellington. Interviewed this evening. Mr \ eitfcli said that his impression was that the* line would be less difficult to construct than he had supposed. Another inspection would Ih* made lielore tlie final decision was. made,, and the question would go before the Cabinet. ' Mr Veiteli said that nothing could be said definitely as to the exact route, but the public could rest assured that the line would be constructed. Tt is understood that it is now certain that the coastal route, and rot either of tlie two promoted mbm-l routes, will be follov,id by tbe railway.
