Mr Jeffries, mentioned that when recently^..absent.ifroiu the district, lie had met. Mr HaWkes and, qth©r.s interested in the Automobile Association of Canterbury, 'kvho. stated they would lie. touring the’ Coast shortly f.roin. Nelsop, end; and would bo here in a. week oi.ten days’ time. They hoped, to interest the Progress'League and Automobile Branch here with regard tp establishing a good motor route between Westland and Canterbury, including a deviation to avoid the Waimakanri crossing at the Bealey, also as to securing more money from the Highways Board for opening up South 'lsland routes. It was decided to meet the visitors and discuss matters, the President to call a joint meeting of the ; League and Automobile- Association on the occasion of' the visit. Mr Mclntosh stated reports had reached him the. huts oil the far south road, particularly on the Mnon Saddle
were in bad order, and casual travellers complained of tlieir neglected state. The lint at Copper Creek also Was not available when the Government Cinematograph party came north. It was decided ti) communicate.- with tlie District Engineer iii respect to the state of the Government huts.
