•In the House of Commons the Air Estimates were discussed iii Committee. Regarding the expenditure of f 6,000 on an air station, at jJSjhgat, of which amount £IOO,OOO is to he spent this year, Sir Samuel Hoare said that it was part of the general expenditure on .the Singapore Rase. The air side wan a necessary side of the base and the provision they were yaking was on a moderate j scale. There was no aerodrome at present suitable for any air squadrons. The Air Force would serve a double purpose. It would only Ik? part of the Nqval Base, capable of performing any air operations of the Naval Base if called upon, but would be -/in important air station in the Far Fast. ■fSxfin if ,Ithere were no naval base at Singapore, an ,nir base would he • neyessefy, as it was a cardiiial ppjiiß in pur air communications.
