INDUSTRIAL CONFERENCE
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrignt).
LuNDON, Alarch T
The committee states there are so many basic factors governing the situation, that it is is at present possible only to indicate measures that should immediately he put in operation, and generalise on certain basic remedies to which the conference will pay further attention later on. The committee hopes for a revival of shipbuilding with its elfeet on allied industries, will shortly improve employment although it does not yet appear that the basic industries will immediately improve. It advocates evolving a national programme without delay. It’ that policy is carried out. there will be no ground for despair because Britain’s activity and prosperity can be raised to higher levels than before, .provided proper measures are taken. The committee is of opinion that the monetary policy since 1929 has not assisted industry. On the contrary, the manner in which inflation has operated has hindered industrial recovery, while it has been difficult for all British industries to adopt themselves to postivan conditions. Regret was expressed that economic conference’s tariff resolutions have so far been almost without result. The report adds that improved AngloRussian Trade would greatly assist unemployment. A full joint session of the conference adopted the report.
