PARADISE DUCKS
OPEN SEASON IN -MAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association), WELLINGTON, March 12. .Many complaints have been received |,v the .Minister of Internal Affairs from farmers in the South as to serious damage being caused by Paradise thicks to crops. They urged, with the support of the Acclimatisation Society, that these ducks should be allowed to be taken or killed during the coming season. The .Minister, after giving very careful consideration to all aspects of the matter, and reviewing the complaints made to him by the farmers of damage the birds are doing to the crops, lias decided to allow an open season for paradise ducks during the first week in May only, in the following districts, viz: Ashburton, the Lakes District, North Canterbury, Otago, South Canterbury; Southland, AVaiiiKite, AYaitaki and Westland. Not more than six birds may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day. Particulars will, of course, lie contained in notifications fixing tbc open seasons, which will be issued shortly.
