GREYMOUTH, March 11. At tlio Magistrate’s Court, Norman Alarsli pleaded not guilty to a charge of 'having, on February loth, at Cobden, driven a motor truck along Bright Street, when the rear number to be fixed in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, was obscured. Constable Baird said that defendant on the date in question had driven J tne truck, loaded with timber and with the tail board down, which covered the number plate. In reply to defendant witness said that the numlier plate and light were V both obscured when tile tail board was down. defendant, in evidence, stated that lie had seen the Traffic Inspector, Mr Sloss, and ..he had stated that the position of the plate conformed with the regulations. So far as the light was concerned, defendant maintained that there was none better. He had alter-, ed its position three times and had done life l>est to carry, out requirements. In reply, to the Magistrate lie said that he had kept the tail hoard down for convenience and to avoid rattling, hut he contended that the number and light were quite visible while the tail board was down. t An adjournment took place and the ■Magistrate inspected the truck-.
