BAGS FROM FLAX

NEW COMPANY FOR DUNEDIN

DUNEDIN, March 8. It is anticipated that in the near future a company, having for its object tbe manufacture of bags, sacks, and wool packs from the Dominion’s native fibre- flax, will be operating in Dunedin. When the business is in full swing it is expected that a reduction will take place in the price of sacks and woolpacks for only native tow, of which there is an. ample supply available, will be used. The company confidently hopes to obtain this at a price much less than the jute substance. Experts have been strongly impressed by the experiments so far carried out and at a meeting of sheep-owners held in November last year it- was unanimously agreed to support the venture. It is understood that a factory site is obtainable at a very low figure. Machinery costing £41,000 and required to make 10,000,000 yards of fabric} each year is to be installed.
