WANGANUI, March 6

The following remits were carried: • That the method of levying the hospital rate is inequitable, and that all hospital expenditure be met. out of the Consolidated Fund. That borough councils having under 6000 population be represented on the Main Highways Board and District Council. That in future the term of office of mayor and councillors be for three years instead of two as at present, and that the Act he amended accordingly. That the Government be urged to arrange that the amount of petrol tax allocated to municipalities with a population of over 6000 l>e increased from 8 to 16 per cent. That the Government he asked to consolidate all legislation relating to motor vehicles and traffic, and to biing it into one Act.

That municipal corporations take into consideration a scheme hv which tnov may co-operate in a united insurance scheme with regard to fire, accident and fidelity risk. -i remit lost was that the Government he asked to set up independent Highways Boards for the North and South Islands, that the funds allocated to the different islands fee controlled exclusively by the hoard concerned, and that authority for transfers of money from one account to another he withdrawn.
