WHALING RECORD
£364,500 OIL CARGO

INVERCARGILL, March 8,
The Norwegian whaler C. A. Larsen arrived at Paterson 'lnlet at mid-day to-day, later a highly successful whaling expedition to Pass Sea.
The vessel carries a cargo of. 73,000 barrels of oil, this representing a catch of 78G whaels, and the value is approximately £364,500. The season was a particularly good one, especially towards the close and during the trip the previous record of 1400 barrels of oil in one day was exceeded, the expedition producing in greater number of barrels than this on four conseeutvie days. The highest number for one day was 10127 barrels which represents about one whale being reduced to oil every hour.
