MR BORAH’S RETORT
(United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright).
WASHINGTON, March 7
Senator Borah lias issued an important statement on the alleged observations by Sir Austin Chamberlain on the Kellogg Pact before the confidential meeting of British journalists.
Senator Borah’s statement reads:— “Sir Austin Chambcrlaain’s remarks cannot he said to be a surprise. It has been pretty well known that lie has always been against the Kellogg Treaty. He came very near torpedoing it in his diplomatic communications, somewhat as he came, near torpedoing the Locarno Pact by his secret Anglo-French naval conference. Need Sir Austin he surprised that the United States should build cruisers when men in authority, like himself jeer at peaceful methods of settling international controversies by any other means than that of the navy; butI venture the opinion that his views do not represent the views of the English people. I do not think his stab will prove fatal!”
