MT. EDEN RESERVOIR. AUCKLAND, March 7. A request to the Government to appoint Mr F. W. Furkert (Chief Engineer of Public Works) or failing him, a competent officer recommended by Mr Furkert, to report regarding the cause of the bursting of Mount Eden Reservoir, is to be made by the City Council. A report presented to the Council to-night outlined the negotiations with the Fletcher Construction Coy., contractors for the new reservoir, regarding repairing the damage to the new works, the anangement to be without prejudice to the question of liability. The DeputyMayor, Mr Entrican, said there was a legal question. The matter was subjudice, and he could not allow any discussion. ECHO OF WALKER CASE. AUCKLAND, March .7. It is understood that Dr M.uuay, gaol surgeon at Auckland, has resigned. He was an important witness at the Elsie Walker inquest and inquiry. M AN SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES WELLINGTON. March 8. A man named F. D. Phipson, residing at 158 a Molesworth St., was acini itter to the hospital at 10.55 o’clock last night, seriously injured, as a result of being knocked down by a motor car. At 12.40 o’clock he succumbed without regaining consciousness. No partieulais arc available as to liow the accident happened.
