THE FOX GLACIER

(From Lyttleton Times). A report of the scenic attractions of tlie Fox Glacier was receivcecl at the meeting' of the Canterbury Progress League on Wednesday evening by the organiser (Mj - P. R. Climie). The report stated that the bridge over the Wnikukupa River on the road between Waiho and Weheka, South Westland, was opened to traffic on February 23, and cars can now he driven with absolute safety to the Fox Glacier Hostel. established by Messrs Sullivan Bros, at Weheka in December lasf. The distance from Waiho to Weheka is only eighteen miles, and the road passes: through some ol the most magnificent husk, to he found anywhere on the West Coast. The road itself is in remarkably good order, and although there are a lew fairly stiff grades, necessitating driving a good deal in second gear, it is perfectly safe to motorists exercising ordinary care. The Fox Glacier Hostel, which Messrs Sullivan Bros, have erected at a cost of about £20,001), is replete with every modern convenience, and affords a comfortable home for visitors who wish to see the glacier. An efficient electrical plant has been installed at considerable expense, there is a commodious billiard room with full-sized table, and a tennis Court is to he laid down 'iuwthe n<W‘ future.
