ROYAL EMPIRES SOCIETY’S COMPETITION.
LONDON, Jail. 10. The following subjects have beenselected by the council of the Loyal Ktiipire Society for their essay competitions this year: For candidates between 10 and 10: ‘•The history and importance of the present Mediterranean possessions oi Croat Britain/’ For candidates he twee II ail 10: “Croat Seamen of the Tudor Period”; and For candidates under 11: ‘‘lsland Life in the Pacific.” The competition was promoted some years ago, with a view to stimulating in the schools of the Umpire and among the children of British subjects generally a study of the Junniro and its problems. Tiie closing date for the entries, which come from all over the world, is November .'SO. A great deal of the preliminary work of examination is undertaken by headmasters and headmistresses, who .submit only the best, essays produced in their respective schools.
