A tow moil ills ago <i Press Association cable from London announced that the .New Zealand .Meat Produccrs Hoard had successful iy prosecuted a hulcher at Asliton-under-Lyne lor selling .South American meat as Now Zealand. Krom information , supplied to the Board by its Ixmdon manager, the facts of this ease are that a representative of the Hoard was supplied with Chilian lamb in place of the New Zealand meat for which he ashed. In fining the defendant £l3 lAs costs, the Magistrate issued a warning that, in future, shopkeepers, and especially butchers, should be careful to siive exactlv what they were asked for.
Following upon this successful prosecution, the Hoard is now informed by cable from its London manager that lie has secured a conviction of a butcher lirni in Plymouth for the same offence. The fine"oil this occasion was £b. with £lO costs.
The Hoard, through its London manager, has for some time past been keeping a vigilant look out for 11 1 i> kind of misrepresentation, and has investigated many eases of the wrongful retailing of inferior meat as ‘Wow Zealand,” but it has generally found upon investigation, that it was impossible to obtain sufficient evidence to warrant a prosecution.
