INCREASE OF CRIME, SYDNEY, March 1. A serious increase in crime throughout the State was indicated in the annual report of the Commissioner of Police, Mitchell. During 1928 there were 3409 offences against property wim violence, and £11,195 without violence, increases of 388 and 668 respectively. Offences against good order numbered 57,289 an increase of 4334. Courts dealt with a total of 137,079 cases. Juvenile offences showed a serious increase. PAY NO RENT. SYDNEY, March 1. It was stated no rents have been paid by timber workers since the commencement of the dispute, and unless strikers are compensated for lost time when the strike is over, none will be paid. The procedure followed is that when a timber worker is notified that his landlord is asking for a settlement, the Disputes Committee has bis house watched by pickets and the orosenoe of these persons prevents the landlord taking further steps.
