(By Telegraph—Press Aseooiat.on). WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. The New Zealand wholesale clothing trade wants a safeguarding tari 11'. A deputation waited on the Manufacturers’ Conference to-day, placing the position before it. Statements were made that, owing to the unemployment position at Home, the worst of sweating conditions exist in the industry there, and the Dominion is thus being flooded with sweated goods. The deputation said that there was no intention of getting up a depuration to Sir Joseph Ward, but they wished to co-operate with the deputation which was proposed by the Federation. The employees, they added, were arranging for a. deputation early in March. The conference decided to instruct the Federation Olivers to assist the clothing manufacturers in presenting their case to the Premier.
