TIMBER DISPUTE
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POLICY REVEALED. (Australian Press Association). (United Service). CANBERRA, Feb. 28. A stormy debate is occurring in the Federal House of Representatives upon the Transport Bill, which gives the Federal authorities more power over industrial disputes. The Labour members shouted wildly. They described the measure variously as a “bludgeoning bill,” “Latham’s Leg Iron,” “branding iron,” and, “Conscription of Labour Bill.” Mr Scullin Leader of the Labour Porty, to-day gave notice that he would move: That in the opinion of this House, the Bruce-Page Government, by its class legislation and its paitisan administration, has caused a dislocation of industry, and is responsible for the crisis in the timber industry Ths motion is regarded as one of censure. MELBOURNE, Feb. 28. At a meeting of the Council of Action, it was proposed to make an extension of the timber dispute. The railwaymen’s representatives are present. These and the transporters generally are likely to lie asked to refuse to handle any goods that have been worked by volunteers on the wharves or elsewnere.
