CONSTITUTION OK COUNCIL

The constitution and functions of the Transport Advisory Council were announced by idle Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward to-day. “Regarding, organisation of transport,” said the Prime Minister, “in addition to the appointment of the Minister for Trailport (Hon Mr Witch), the setting up of a Transport Adivsory Council has neon authorised. ’1 his will consist of one representative to he appointed by the Government to act as chairman one representative to lie appointed by the North and .South Island Motors Unions, one representative to he appointed by the New Zealand Masters’ Carriers Federation, one representative to he appointed bv Labour organisations, one representative to he nominated h.v the omnibus proprietors, one representative to he nominated by the service ear proprietors, one representative to Ik? nominated by the wholesale and retail motor trade, one representative to be nominated by the Now Zealand Counties’ Association, and on<* representative to he nominated by the Now Zealand Municipal Association.” The Council will work in conjunction with the Minister and the Commissioner who is to be appointed. The Commissioner will be the administrative head of the Department, and the council is to be advised by the Minister on all matters coming within the functions of the Department which may he referred to it.

Questions have arisen as to whether the new Transport Department intends to repeal the regulation concerning the carrying of red reflectors on motor cars. Approached on the subject today, the Minister for Transport, the Hon. Mr Veitcli, stated that nothing definite had been decided upon. The matter, however, was at present reeiving his attention, and lie hoped to he able to make an announcement shortly.
