MINER KILLED

WESTPORT, February 28

James White, sngile, aged 65, was killed at 10.30 this morning by a fall of coal in the Westport Main Mine at Grnnity. An inquest is being held.

i reserved decision in the Quinn’s Post Hotel case was given to-day by Mr McNeill, in favour of the licensee, Eliza ietli Rairdon. Mr McNeill found that Mrs Walsh, although having possession of the bar keys had no authority to constitute herself a representative of the licensee and her act of selling liquor was not as the agent of the licensee. The charge of selling liquor after hours was therefore dismissed.

A serious motor accident occurred in the early hours this morning in the main street. Passing the “Memorial Clock Tower a car owned by Carnaby, of Dannevirke, swerved into a gutter and came into violent collision with a telephone post and was badly wrecked. 'I lie five occupants were all more or less :adly injured, two being removed to the Waipukurau Hospital.
