£II, OOO GIFT

A gift of £II.OOO to the Methodist Church 'for the relief of the widows and children of deceased ministers and for the relief of siipernufnery ministers or laymen who, by reason of sickness, were in needy circumstances.- was announced at the annual Conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand this afternoon. The donor, who remains anonymous, is a prominent Alethodist layman, who has already given largely both to the church and to the public of Auckland province. The terms of the trust drawn up pro vide that no grant exceeding CIOO to any one person may be made within a period of 12 months. The trustees are to he resident in the city of Auckland. The fund of £II,OOO consists of bonds bearing interest at the rate of If per cent, and maturing in January, 1931. It is the desire of the donor that 1 '
fund should be left intact until t'H» bonds mature.
In receiving the fund, the Conference decided unanimously to thank the donor for his generous gift- of a benevolent fund, which it was decided lo name after the donor and his wife.
