FAITH OF SCIENTIST

SIR O'. LODGE OX WIFE’S DEATH. (United Press Association.—By ElectricTelegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, February 2d. “ Beautiful Faith of a Scientist,” is how the attitude of Sir Oliver Lodge towards the death of his wife is prescribed in a special interview. “Death is not a calamity, but an adventure through which all have to go. My endeavour at this moment is to live up to all that I and my dear wife believe. I am absolutely convinced of survival and so was my wife. She was quite ready to go to join our son and daughter on the other side, and she looked forward to meeting them. They were also anxious that she should go. She went peacefully—not as a corpse, but as one knowing that death like birth is'a new existence. I have no anxiety regarding her. She did not want mourning, but a little village funeral and she talked of it before passing. She said she would like children to sing on the way from the house to the church. She intends to give some evidence to help the beliefs which both of us possess, for she knows to difficulties oil' the people who are unbelieving. Tt will bo a month or thereabouts before I make any attempt. If it is any consolation to others, T shall practice my belief, because of my absolute certainty that death is merely a passing-over. She is now probably resting and recovering. She will become younger, although her spirit was always young.” The bond of affection between Sir Oliver Lodge and his wife throughout their married life of half a century was a wonderful one. Her funeral will he on Saturday and it will be private.
