ANNUAL MEETING

.MONDAY, FEISRUABY 25th

Tin* annual meeting ol' the United Fire Brigades Accident Assurance Society was held at the Town Hall at 4.150 p.m. Deputy-Superintendent 1\ Deere of fJroyinouth (Past-President) occupied tlie chair in the ahsence of the President (S. F. Reid) who was not in the district.

The Chairman (Deputy-Superinten-dent Deere;) welcomed mem hers to the 37th Conference 1 , which he Imped would prove satisfactory to all concerned.

The minutes of the last conference were read and confirmed.

In presenting the Thirty-seventh Annual Report and Balance Sheet of the. United Fire Brigades’ Association Accident Assurance Society, the Executive have to state that there has lieen an increase in the amount paid for accident claims.

The detailed list of claims submitted by the Secretary tfill enable the delegates to see how the money lias been disbursed. It will be noticed that there were 33 claims during the year, and benefits were distributed between 28 Brigades.

Boll.—We have to report that the Opotiki and Papatoetoc Brigades, with a membership of 25, joined the Society during the year, and the Avondale and Christchurch Railway Brigades, with 2G members, withdrew. This leaves our mil at 114 Brigades the samo as last year. The membership totalled 1827, au increase of 22 over last year. Me would draw attention to the fact that six Brigades with a membership of 103 were unfinancial at the end of tlieycai. This makes a difference of approximately ; C2O ill the receipts of the Society. All hut one have now paid np.

Balance Sheet.—The Accident Fund Receipts including balance of £2lßl 17s 9(1, Contributions .£203 10s 9d, Interest £74 19s 3d and £27 os Od, amount transferred from .Management Fund under Rule 20 were £2488, and the Expenditure on Accident claims was £lßo 10s. an increase of £l6 15s, leaving a balance to the credit of the Accident Fund of £2302 12s 3d, an increase of l! 120 14s Od. Management Fund Receipts including a balance from last year of £O4 14s were £2lO 3s 3d, and the Expenditure including the amount transferred to the Accident Fund was Cl'lo 9s <sd, leaving a credit balance of £94 Ms, which is the maximum allowed hy the rules. The total accumulated funds now to the credit of the Society are £2397 0s 3d as against £2276 11s od, being an increase df £l2O 14s Od. The affairs of the above Society are being extremely well managed as the above figuies show. . Your Executive would point out to delegates that with ever-increasing number of Motor llcols being introduced into the service, and the enormous amount of motor traffic generally, our accident hazards are naturally becoming greater, and it behoves all Brigades to exercise the greatest eaution at all times to safeguard the well are of their members. ■ We have again to compliment Secretaries on their careful attention to business, no disputes of any kind having occurred during the year. Secretary—Captain I- J- Wattf (Newmarket). , , Foreman Wilson (Milton) moved that a letter he sent to Mr Fraser (Aud.toO wishing him a speedy recovery Iron, his illness. Seconded hy Foreman Gram and carried. Auditor—Mr Fraser. The remuneration of the Secretary nnd 'leasurer was fixed at the same amount as last year. The President then installed the several odicers, compliment ing them on their election. Superintendent Foilas and Superintendent Mclntosh tVice-Presidents) returned thanks for their election. Foreman Wilson 'Milton! moved « vote of thanks to the retiring olheers for past services. Carried hy acclamation. . Post President Deere returned thanks.

A vote of thanks to the scrutineers and the press was passed and the meeting terminated at 5.30 p.m. with the singing of the National Anthem.
