FATALITY AT MOONLIGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Association). GREYMOUTH, February 26. Phillip Lindstrom, aged 55, a farmer at Moonlight, while trying out a young horse on the riverbed last evening, was thrown and killed instantly. COSTLY ARBITRATION PROCEEDINGS. HAWERA, February; 26. Arbitration proceedings opened hero to-day to determine the value of the assets of the Hawera County Electric Coy. for the purpose of purchase by the South Taranaki Power Board. The assessors are Mr E. Hitchcock, Man- - ager of the -Municipal Electricity Department, Christchurch, for the Board, and Mr H. D. Vickery, accountant, Wellington, for the Company. Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., is umpire. Mr F. C. Spratt, Wellington, with him Mr A. K. North (Hawera) are counsel for the company, which is in the position of a plaintiff, and Mr Myers, K.C., with him Mr John Houston (Hawera) are counsel for the Board. The witnesses include accountants and engineers from various parts of the Dominion, and it , is anticipated the proceedings will last several days. A SETTLER PASSES. GISBORNE, February 26. The death occurred this morning of Eaton Cameron, aged 89, a pioneer settler of Poverty Bay. He came here with bullock drays while in the employ ctf Sir Donald.McLean. He was born at Inverness, Scotland, and came to New Zealand in 1860, and was engaged fighting the Maori rebels in Waikato during the early years. He settled in Poverty Bay in 1870 and lived 55 yearson one property at Bushmere, for the title of which he fought the Maori claimants for 24 years. He was a noted judge of stock, an enthusiastic member , of the A. and P. Society and spared his enthusiasm for Caledonian Associations and ploughing matches in the earlier days. He leaves a widow, seven sons, and two daughters. FURTHER PARTICULARS. WELLINGTON, Feb. 26. When counsel asked for bail for Richard Ryan who, he saidj was not concerned with the breaking into the shop, and would be able to establish a defence, the Chief Detective said that when tlie four men were admitted to hail last week, the facts in the other charges were not known. The shop in Lower Hutt had not only been broken into and goods stolen, but had been set on fire and damage to the extent of £1750 was done. FATALLY BURNED. ROTORUA, February 26. John William Milligan, aged 33, employed by Afforestation Proprietary Ltd., Taupo, was brought to Rotorua last night suffering from severe burns received when trapped by flames While burning off protective belts. TRAINING OF YOUTHS. GISBORNE, February 26. A meeting of representatives of Chambers of Commerce, Employers Associations, Apprentice Committees,. Y.M.C.A., Rotary, and Shop Assistants Union last night recommended the Government to establish technical schools for trade education of boys leaving school in annual drafts. It emphasised the necessity for keeping lads m productive work or training until openings develop for their absorption into trades. A BURGLARY. PALMERSTON N., Feb. 26. The premises of B- Palenski, hairdresser and tobacconist in Cuba Street, were entered’ by burglars last night. A quantity of stock is missing.
