At the Reefton Magistrate’s Court decision was given by Mr W. Meldrum, S.M. in the case in wliich Mrs M. Berosford Wilkinson was charged witn printing, publishing and selling a document purporting to be a programme of horse racing events. There was a conviction on the charge of printing, and a fine of 10s, with costs Ills was imposed. The other two charges were, withdrawn. In arriving at his decision the Magistrate stated h< found that, the statute following war legislation heavily taxed racing clubs, and was meant as a protection against competition to official cards. Anyone buying the document in question would not* in his opinion, require an official card as well, and the document was a programme within the meaning of the Act.
