With the ending of winter the regular period of internecine warfare in China is commencing. The reappearance of Marshall Cluing Chung Chang, a former Chantuiig bandit at Tiipan will probably result in SliaiUung again being the centre of a civil war. A Japaneses report states Chang is still supported by SomenolF and Nachelf, white Russian leader of the former Sahiintung arrives.. CHINESE FIGHTING. SHANGHAI, Feh. 22. Heavy lighting within a score of miles of Cliefoo resulted in an initial victory for Nanking forces numbering 7()!0, under Liu Chiennien. Two hundred were killed and three hundred taken prisoners. REVOLT TEMPORARILY SUPPRESSED. {Received this day at 10 a.m.) SHANGHAI, February 24. The Shantung revolt is reported temporarily suppressed, victory favouring the Nationalists. Cliefoo, the rebels’ objective is now quiet. Cliaug Chung Cluing, the erstwhile Governor c'f Shantung, is believed to be personally stationed in close proximity to the scene of the recent hostilities, causing well informed circles to believe the uprising is not permanently quashed. British and American and Japanese warships are continuing to stand by Cliefoo tor the protection of their nationals.
