The Council met :it 7.30 p.m. Present:—Messrs (>'. A. Perry (Mayor), J. King, A. R. I'] I cook, T. W. Duff. I). J. Evans, (!. Heinz, E. W. Jleenan, A. C. Armstrong, W. .Jeffries and Dr Teichefmann.
The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.
IN WAR I) CORRESPONDENCE
From M unioipa! Association, lorwarding copies of President’s address Received.
From J. \V. Haile a])j>lying for water connection to property in Weld Street, —Received.
From (>. H. Timpson, withdrawing application for tenancy oif Reserve No. 52 7.—Received.
From Air Sullivan, Greymoutli, ((noting price for second-hand spiral lockbar steel pipes.—Received. From N.Z. Refrigerating Company, Christchurch, intimating that the following carcases were delivered into Hokitika during the month of .January. 1929: 2 sheep, 5 lambs, J cattle.—Received. From N.Z. Institute of Town Clerks, intimating that’ Institute meets at Wanganui on the oth March, and asking Council to he so good as to facilitate the attendance of the Town Clerk. —Received. From Hokitika Fire Brigade, intimating that the Foreman’s request for the Brigade to give a rigid test to the water pressure would be attended to without deluy.—Received,
From the Chairman, Mo. 12 District Highways Council, ro traffic inspectors on main highways,—Received. . From A, Keller asking for cutting of gorse in Sale Street north.-— Received. Referred to Works Committee. The Treasurer reported receipts £135 18s 9d, payments £SO 4s lOd, credit balance £324 15s 3d.—Received.
Accounts amounting to C4-I8 15s 5d were passed for payment.
Mr Evans moved :
(1) “That application ho made to the Highways Board to extend the highway within the Borough: (a) in respect to Fitzherbert St., via Gibson Quay to the Post Office; (b) in respect to Stafford Street, via Weld Street to Revcll Street (the main thoroughfare of the town).”
(2) “That application be made to the High ways Board to ascertain the rate of subsidy payable for tar-sealing the main highway in the Borough.”
Seconded by the Mayor and carried. Mr Duff urged that upper Sewell Street aiid the junction with the north boundary road should be widened. Referred to Public Works Committee to deal with.
Mr Jeffries moved that the police authorities be asked' to provide extra protection during the' next ten days, especially in the outskirts of the town in view of a number of rumours "of possible happening during the visit of firemen to the district.—Seconded by Mr Duff and carried. The Council rose at 8.10 p.m.
