LIQUOR SELLING AFTER HOURS

WELLINGTON, Feb. 22

Defence was beard to-day in the ease in which Elizabeth Ttairdoii, licensee of Quinn’s Post Hotel, is charged with selling liquor after hours. The case arose out of a taxi fatality in Taita Gorge in December. It was sought to show the licensee had no knowledge of .j lu | bad given no authority for the sale. The decision was reserved.

MASTERTON. Feb. 22

Masterton A. and P. Society’s Ram Fair was continued to-day before a large attendance of buyers. Lincolns, both .studs and flocks met with the best sale for. years, 1.10 guineas being the top price for a stud Lincoln offeroil on account of L. R. Wilton, of .Masterton. the purchaser being a local breeder, I R. Donald. Lincoln flock rams fetched up to 19 guineas. Southdown stud and flock rams also met with a satisfactory.,.mnrket for quality animals. Stud Southdown rams sold on account of W. J. Gimblett (Manawatu) topped tlie market at 122 guineas, being purchased by the Loan and Mercantile Agency Cov., Christchurch. Another good animal sold for Ellis Bros, brought 109 guineas. Southdown flocks ranged up to 31 guineas. A few pens of Corriedales were offered, but only two lots were sold.

INJURIES PROVE FATAL

CHRISTCHURCH, February 23

John Herbert King, aged 19) years, of Sydenham, who struck the. bottom when diving into a pool at Sumner last Saturday, suffering a severe injury to the spine, died in’, the hospital last night.
