BRITISH BUDGET
NOT A “POPULAR” ONE
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).
LONDON, Feb. 22,
. The “Daily Mail’s” political correspondent states: —The indications are that there will he only small economies in Mr Churchill’s budget, which he presents in the House of Commons on April 9th. The actual total cannot ho far short of that of last year, when it stood at £805,000,000. '
’The army and navy estimates will show small reductions. The Air I’orce expenditure figures are described pretty much tlic same as beiore. It is estimated that the other departments are unlikely to be lower. r l hose best able to judge declare that Air Churchill will have no surplus on the ytar s working. Therefore a “popular” budget can hardly he expected. The utmost anticipated is a re-arrangement of taxation. Any new taxes are not expected on the eve of the general election.
