A very successful rehearsal;by Miss Ann Duff’s company was held at the Soldiers’ Hall last evening. (Jn Wednesday next there will be the final re bearsal and all must attend punctually at 7 o’clock sharp, as the Soldiers’ Hall will be otherwise engaged from 8.30 o’clock.

The Westland Acclimatisation Society lias just imported five pairs of Canadian geese for acclimatisation purposes. As the flock increases the young birds will lie released. They will continue protected in the district for the time being.
The competition events set down on the Fire Brigades’ competition list bn this occasion have all been modernised. Although the alterations are on trial, it is expected that the demonstration will be most successful. 'The public will find much to please and interest in the various competitions which will continue on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdav of next week.
It is announced in this issue that b> snecial request Miss Ann Duff will present a grand concert and revue at the Princess Theatre on Thursday night next in aid of the Fire Brigade funds. The programme to be presented will prove an attractive one, and a genuine entertainment will be provided. The scale of admission is reasonable, and as a wind-up to a busy day on Cass Square the benefit should draw a h.il house.

Captain Watts, Secretary of the United Fife Brigades’ Association, who } met the local Demonstration Committee last evening, stated the conference. of representatives of Brigades which «i»would open on Monday morning, would he a record for attendance. Over 130 brigades would be represented at the meeting.
A meeting in connection with the Red Cross Peace Time work was'held in Kanieri last evening and was very well attended. Sister Christian, who was introduced by Mrs Drummond (chair), explained the work of the nciety. A sub-committee was formed and 21 members were enrolled as follows President, Mrs Drummond; secretary, Miss Morris; committee, Miss Forsyth, Mrs Manson, Mrs M. Hutchinson and Miss Wylie. Classes commence on Thursday, March /th. Meetings will also be held in the following places:—Rimu, Woodstock, Koilerangi, Kokatalii.
The death took place at Westland tv,. Hospital yesterday alternoon of an old and highly respected resident of Ross in the person .of Mrs Thomas, who'for many years had carried on business as a iruiterer, arid confectioner in Aylmer Street. Deceased, who had attained trie ag« of 84 years had been in illhealth for some time, and a few weeks ago was brought to Westland Hospital where she gradually failed, death coming peacefully yesterday. Deceased was a native of Germany, and had been 64 years in New Zealand, most of that time being spent in ltoss. She leaves one niece, Airs Bundcrsen, of Christchurch and a grandniece' there - also. .....
The whereabouts are .at present unknown, says the “ Argus,” of Nurse Dorothy Hamilton McHaffie, belohyig to a Jiospital at Christchurch, who a week ago left there by the West Coast express to visit Mrs Simpson, of Terennikau Settlement. She lias not reached there, and nothing has since been heard of her. The police will be pleased to learn any tidings of Miss M,cHaffie, who is 39 years of age, about five feet in height, of slight build, sallow complcxioii, with large brown eyes, and dark brown hair, worn in a plait over, each ear. She was dressed in a jumper suit, rose-coloured tweed skirt, crepe dc chine blouse, tweed coat with fur collar. She was carrying a dark leather luind-hag, containing two £1 notes and a Post Office Savings Bank book. She bad a railway ticket through to Kumara.
