RAILWAYMEN HURT

DUNEDIN, Feb. 21
A surfaceman on the railways, James Ijcsli'o I-Jeiulcrson. stepped out of the road of a train this afternoon, and in doing so placed himself in front of a moving truck. He was knocked down and received head injuries, necessitating his removal to the hospital. Henderson is a married man, aged forty, and resides at Caversham. His condition is not serious. SUPREME COURT SENTENCES. NAIM UR, February 22. Supreme Court sentences were:— William Charles and Charles Neville indecent assault on hoys, 18 months’ hard. Ernest Arthur Smoothey, indecent assault on a girl, two years’ hard. James Humphreys, perjury, to three mouths’ hard. James .Maxwell, for theft, reformative treatment for two years. Alan Harry, assault, three months. Patrick Dorgnn, theft of beer, two years’ probation. BOY FALLS OVER 40 FEET CLIFF. NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 21. Falling down a 40ft. cliff at Woolcombe Terrace this evening, John Charles Clarke, aged 12. suffered severe head injuries, probably involving a fracture of the skull. The boy was standing near the edge of the cliff, which is continually being eroded by the sea, when a section of earth broke away, and carrying the. boy with it. crashed on the sandy beach. The boy to-night was semi-conscious. BLENHEIM OIL. NEW PLYMOUTH. Feb. 21. Swabbing and bailing have been con. tinned in the Tin. casing, stated a report issued by the Blenheim OIT Company to-night. At 7.15 this evening, oil was brought up bv n swab through the casing, when operations ceased for the day. A RESOLUTION PASSED. WELLINGTON, February 22. A meeting of New Zealand graduate* in medicine, held in 'conjunction with the Medical Conference, passed a res'olotion urging on the Government the immediate necessity of establishing an up-to-date obstetrical hospital adjacent to the Dunedin Hospital for a more efficient midwifery training of the 'future doctors of the Dominion. MAN KILLED P,Y CAR. ANOTHER SERIOUSLY INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 22. A man named Stephen James Johnston, of Tie Kopara. Dargaville, was killed last evening and a man named Boldero, of Tennyson Street, Takapuna, was seriously injured by being struck by a motor car driven by Mrs Stanley, of Riccarton, at the corner of Manchester and Belfast Streets. According to eye witnesses the car seemed to get out of control.
