MOTOR FATALITY

CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 21
A motor-car driven by a woman knocked down two men in Manchester Street this evening. One of the men died at the Christchurch Hospital ten minutes later.
The other man’s condition is very grave. He sustained head injures, necessitating an immediate operation.
The identity of the men is ‘ not known. Letters found on the deceased man are addressed to “Stephen James Johnson, of Tekopuru. Dargaville.” The other man was semi-conscious when picked up. When asked his name he said “Balsgrove,” or a similar name. Then he quickly collapsed.
The two men were crossing Manchester Street when a closed car approached from the south, and turned in to ■Belfast -Street, when the two men were struck. The car then ran along the footpath for some distance, when it collided with another motor car parked near the footpath.
The woman driver of the car was taken to a nearby hotel in a state oi nervous collapse.
