' “GUN GOSPELFRIDAY. One of the fastest-, most dramatic, and powerful Western pictures to be shown in many a day—that is “ Gun Gospel,” starring that most magnetic nnd popular of all Western stars, Ken Maynard. It is n First National Picture and was produced by Charles R, -Rogers. Maynard has no superior when it comes to ridjpg, but,,in his latest offering he surpasses anything ho has done in the past. His daring as a rider has won him. the acclaim of all motion picture fans, but he js a. star who is never content with past performances, and he is constantly devising new hair-raisers with the assistance of his equine pal, Tarzan. Never hnve we speu ftim, undertake such dangerous stunts as, he essays in “Gun Gospel.” B[e savings from the saddle to the ground and back -again while going at a full gallop; he rides underneath Tarzftn, and, most spectacular ,of all; he deliberately trips the horse while going down a steep'; mountainside. “Gun Gospel,” which Was written by W. D. Hoffman, is one of the most popular Western stories ever written, and it possesses an unusually powerful -ttfenie. It deals with.,,the passing of, the old-time Western two-gun man and the establishment of law and order in a new country. In the role of Granger Hume Maynard demonstrates that ‘he is not only a horseman of rare ability, blit an able 1 actor. He bandies with equal skill his widely diversified parts, first as a co.wboy, then ft-s a Maxi can caballero and finally as a minister .who breaks up .a gang of crooks. Harry J. Btown, the director, has shown a fine restraint in handling the story. He lias maintained fin ,eyen, fast-moving tempo that keeps, one on the edge of his seat and evokes cheers from adult as well as juvenile spectators; The Bcenic effects, as usual in a. Maynard picture, are marvellously • beautiful.
