HURRIED VISIT TO AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, Feb. 4

Sir Eric Geddes, a former member of the Imperial War Cabinet, and one of the most conspicuous figures in Great Britain during the war and post-war periods, reached Melbourne' to-day on a hurried business visit. In recent years Sir Eric Geddes has become associated with many .Urge commercial undertakings, and it is as cnairman of the Dunlop Rubber Company that lie has come to Australia.

Immediately after his arrival, Sir Erie Geddes began a series of business conferences which occupied the remainder of the day. He will be similarly engaged for the greater part of his brief visit, for arrangements have been made for him to board the steamer Alooltan for London at Adelaide on Ferbuary 14th. Sir Erie Geddes said that lie did not intend to make the mistake of talking about Australia before he had seen it. He declined also to discuss the industrial position of the Commonwealth. Although he would not- discuss the report that his visit was likely to result in development in the establishment of an Empire air route between Britain and Australia, it is understood that if time permits Sir Erie Geddes will discuss this subject with the defence auciiorities in Australia.
