AUCKLAND, February 18.

At the Police Court, Te Haurangi, a Maori, 37, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on various charges of robbeiy from private houses.

At the Supreme Court, the following sentences were imposed by Judge Blair:—

Ray Gordon Capel, two years at Borstal for breaking and entering. Edward Charles Sadler, two years’ hard labour, for indecent assault on a boy.

James Ahtona Wallingtonford Fleming, twelve months’ imprisonment for receiving.

Bertie John Christian, two years hard labour, for breaking and entering. Kenneth Malcolm McDonald, one years reformative detention for receiv-

ing - , Fleming is 'the prisoner who was married while awaiting sentence. Judge Blair was informed by counsel of the fact that prisoner was now married. The Judge said that it did not make any difference to him in considering the sentence. To the prisoner the Judge said : I don’t propose to do as I could, hut warn you not to come before the Court again. Having taken on further responsibilities, perhaps you will lead a different life. It was stated at his trial that Fleming had followed a career of crime practically from the time of coming t’o New Zealand in 1925.
