INFLUENZA
AUSTR ALIA N PR EC A UTIONS. Vustralian Press Assn.—United Service Canberra. Feb. 17. The Federal Minister for Health, replying to questions in the House, said that all of the necessary stops had been taken to guard against an influenza epidemic in Australia. There was no further evidence of its prevalence in tin* Pacific Islands, but all precautions were being taken by the quarantine authorities.
EPIDEMIC IX BRITAIN. 1 JON DON, Feb. 15. Owing to the present influenza epidemic. of which he himself has been a victim. Cardinal Bourne, acting on the advice of the medical authorities, lias issued a dispensation absolving Roman Catholics in the Westminster .diocese trorn fasting during Lent. The bishops of other dioceses are issuing a similar dispensation. A bulletin states that the Duchess of York is convalescing satisfactorily, but will not attend engaements next week or for a fortnight, as a precaution in view of the prevailing weather.
