At the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy sentenced Cyril Kevin 'McKenna lo nine months hard larbour for robbery witch violence on two charges. Joseph Patrick O’Neil was sen teheed t oeightecn mith hard labour m rich of two charges for indecent assault on boys.
SUDDEN DEATH. , PALMERSTON NORTH, Fob. 16. The death occurred suddenly at a private hotel early this morning, John Fitzpatrick, an employee on the railway deviation works. The deceaced room mate was awakened shortly after three by violent '•ough'.i'.g. Fitzpatrick died before the doctor arrived.
A NEW BYE-LAW. GRAMOPHONES AND RADIO IN SHOPS. AUCKLAND. February 15. Probably the owners of music shops will disagree with the definition of sounds emanating from their premises as nuisances, or annoyances, but the city council lias decided from a public viewpoint that the definition is fitting. Last evening the following bye-law was adopted: No person shall in any premises adjoining, or near, any street, lootpath, or public place, hv playing any gramophone, or musical instrument,, or operating any wireless, or oilier device, cause a nuisance, or annoyance to persons in or on such street, foot path or public place. In submitting the draft the solicitor said that it was diffieu.lt to frame a suitable by-law without, iiiterlering with the legitimate list' of music shops bv the owners. IC E CREAM NOT UP TO STANDARD. WAIPUKURAU, February 15. In the Magistrate’s Court, this morning. before Mr Mowloin, S.M., i<en. Fdleisliavv. n! Takapau, was charged with selling ice cream containing less than ten parts per cent of milk fat. T| h . Magistrate said that, a breach (•! the Pure Foods and Drugs Act could not. be overlooked. Defendant manufactured bis own ice cream, and should have known of the deficiency. Ibe public were entitled to protection. The ease was serious. Defendant was convicted and lined to and costs 235.
SWIMMER HURT IN DIVING. CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 17.J. H. King, aged 20, residing in Durham Street, in the city, was-seri-ously hurt on Saturday when diving from a pier into shallow water at Sumner. He struck the bottom with-his head and he lay in the water unconscious until a bystander jumped in fully clad and brought him out.- His spine is believed to have been dislocated, loday his condition is unchanged, and is verv serious.
