ARAPUNI DAM
AN ASSURANCE OK SAFETY. HAMILTON, February 1 !. Mr Rabone, chief Public Works Engineer at Arnpiini, when interviewed, estimated that the first supply ot power from the hydro-electric works would be available about June, Hie amount being 15.009 kilowatts. Similm further supplies would probably be available in September and December, or January .
Mr Rabone gave an assurance Huh the dam was perfectly safe. Ihe ground would hear a pressure ol 70 to 100 tons to the square foot, while the present greatest pressure was only eight tons. Comparing conditions wHi the St. Francis dam in (alifornia. ho said that the collapse of that dam was due to the disintegrating of the hard pan on which the dam was constructed, resulting from water action on ground previously dry, but Hieie was no such possibility at Arapuni.
