A MOUNTAIN CLIMB

ASCENT OF THE BLJAHT. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 15. In order to climb The Blimit, near Mount Rolleston, a party of Hampers from' the Canterbury Mountaineering Club took advantage of the tramways excursion to Arthur’s Pass for their week-end trip. The train arrived at 11.15 a.m. and the party set off at once up the Qtira road to where The Blimit track branches off.

' After a steep ascent to the top of the bush a halt was called for lunch and the usual readjustment of gear and clothes, for a.s the day was calm, and hot, coats, etc., were left behind. From here the going was very steep, 'through alpine scrub, tjiep snow grass and finally out on to a rock ridge, which was easy going until the top was reached, where a billy was found containing the names of previous climbers. These were scrutinised, one or two being familiar.

The day was sunny and clear, so that a very fine view of the surrounding country was obtained. In the south-west Mount Murchison looked quit© a good peak, with Greenlaw, Harper, Davie, Rolleston, and Philistine* alongside. The snowfield of the 1 latter looked beautiful. Two rather nice‘rock peaks lay to the north, the nantes of which were not known by any of th© party, while just below lay a pretty snow-ringerl tarn, which looked most inviting for a dip. Time was getting on. so the party hurried down, and, after a halt at the bush for tea. pushed on to the station, which was reached at 0.20 p.m.. just over six hours having been needed for the walk.
