SWIMMING.

A meeting of the Hokitika Swimming Club was hold at the Municipal t Baths last evening, Mr Evans being voted to the Chair. Messrs Gillooly, Bergamiini and Houston Jnr., were appointed a sub-committee to attend to the deepening of the well, whence water was pumped to replenish the bath. M. Houston Jnr. (Secretary) reported the New Zealand representative lady swimmers who attended the Olympiad, Misses Stockley and Miller, accompanied by Miss Hood, New Zealand champion lady diver, would visit Hokitika on Thursday next, and it was resolved to hold a carnival at the baths that evening, commencing at 7.30 o’clock, admission being adults la fid, children 6d. Messrs Houston (2) were deputed to arrange the programme which will include an invitation race for the ladies, as well as handicap events in which they will compete against all comers. Mrs Lynn was appointed chaperone, and asked to take charge of the refreshments to be provided. A social dance will be held in the Soldiers’ Hall following' the carnival. It was decided to invite the Municipal Band to render a programme at the baths. The occasion presents a unique opportunity to see the foremost lady swimmers of the Dominion in action, and the occasion is sure to be availed of, and a large attendance of town and country patrons should be assured. There is a considerable amount of local interest already being manifested in the visit, and the town is fortunate to have the champions here in action.
