BOWLING

WEST COAST BOWLING TOURNAMENT. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13tli. Play was continued at 8 o’clock, the Pairs Competition being commenced, 32 pairs being engaged. The day was again line with clouds which made the conditions very pleasant. Promptly at 8 a.in. tlie first 16 pairs commenced a game of two hours’ time limit, live sets taKmg place, giving Sections A and B 3 games cadi and Sections C and D two games for the day. On to-day the play was reversed, the two latter sections having three games and the former two, making 5 games each for the two days. The, green again rolled out excellently, being a good deal faster as the day wore on. Play was keen throughout and some fine howling resulted. The games resulted in many expectations not lining effected and many of the pairs had unexpected wins or defeats as tlie course of the play took place. On the day Delargey (Canterbury) was the only pair to secure three wins and no losses in Sections A and B. While in Sections C and D only Howard (Hokitika) and Leach (Runanga) secured two wins.

The attendance of spectators was large all day, especially in the'afternoon, when the seating accommodation was taxed. Much interest was shown in the play, the green and surroundings looking at their best. The Ladies Committee had the busiest day of the series, supplying welcome refreshments both morning and afternoon and it spoke well for their very complete arrangements that there was full and plenty for everyone. There were many willing helpers who made light of what actually was a very busy and arduous day. The following are the balance ot tlie /av’s results: — PAIRS.

Play to-day is cut down to 4 hour 40 minute games to enable sectional ties to be played off this evening to enable a clear field for the finals oif both links and pairs on Friday. The morning the weather was overcast at 8 o’clock. Light rairi fell at 10 o’clock hut after a short delay the second round of the day was completed in light rain.
