IRISH FREE STATE

THE NEW COINAGE. We have Ijeen shewn a specimen set of the new coins issued by tlie Irish Tree State, which are something quite new in design for British coins, as they are impressed iwith designs from nature on tiie reverse, the obverse being in each case a harp with the name of the State in Irish. The reverse designs are as follows: Half-crown—Horse. Two shillings—Salmon leaping. Shilling—Bull. Sixpence—G rey hound. j hreopence —Hare. Penny—Hen and chickens. Halfpenny—Sow with litter. Farthing—Bird in (light (kingfisher). Each has the value of the coin in Irish and in figures. The issue, altogether is quite an interesting and novel series though as the impressions are rather shallow they may not wear well.
