HOSPITAL FEES
DEPARTAI ENT WANTS AN INCREASE. HAMILTON, February 7. That tht; Department of Health hoped that hospital fees would be increased throughout the Dominion was a statement made by Dr T. H. A. Yalintine, Director-General of Health, in an interview with the Waikato ITos- - pita 1 Hoard this morning. On members protesting against an increase as unfair to poor people, Dr Vnlintine said a concession could always be made them. The Hon. A. J. Stallworth'y, in an interview with the. Waikato Hospital 'Hoard tin’s .morning, refused to commit the Government to the creation of a now hospital district embracing Rotorua, Taupe, and Huy of Plenty, but said the evidence adduced showed that a new district was possible. He suggested that more adequate hospital accommodation was likely to he needed at Rotorua. The discussion arose out of the Department's demand that the Waikato Hoard should pay more for patients treated at the, Government Hospital at Rotorua.' The board now is paying half fees. The Minister agreed that.the present arrangement should continue to the end of the financial year.
