The Schools’ Excursion to Lake Alnhinapua was favored with ’a fine sunny day. There was a drying breeze and the conditions at the lake were very satisfactory. The usual supply of hot water was made available for the picnickers, and in the afternoon a children’s sports’ programme was run off. The Afunicipal Band was present during the day and enlivened the proceedings with a musical programme. 'I he excursion train returnoul to Hokitika at 7.45 p.m. there being-general expressions of satisfaction at the distinct* success of the outing.

There was a fnir y attendance at the Princess Theatre last evening to witness., the entertainment by Paul Pedrini and his Zambesi Baboons. The late return of the train excursionists was probably responsible for the audience not being larger. The first half consisted of an interesting picture display. fhe second half being donated to Paul Pedrini and his' animals. Paul Padrini gave a clever exhibition of sleight of feet items, all excellently done, and the filial whirl with the three monkeys was an excellent finale. The hahoons attracted much interest, their antics causing interest and amusement.

Tho death took place yesterday morning at 2.30 o’clock at the Grey River Hospital of Mr Robert Cherrie. one of the pioneer coal*'m'fiiers of the Brunner district. The dfibeased, who was 71 years of age, came to Zealand 4fi years ago, 40 of which were spent in Brunner, where he worked at the AVallsend Mine until lie met with an accident. He bad latterly lived with his daughter, Airs A. Robinson, of the Tramway Hotel, Taramnkau. He leaves a family of seven; two sons (John and Robert, of Ross), and five daughters, Alesdames Rugg (Wellington), Roderick ('Lyttelton), Cosbridgo and Baxter (Palmerston North), and Robinson iTarniiiakau).
