AYOOL SALES. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Feb. 5. The second wool sale commenced this morning 27,269 bales being offered. A decline in prices was anticipated, following the London advices, but it- was not to the exent anticipated, the Continental demand being stronger than usual, and acting as a saver. The first auction sold 91. per cent and the second 97 per cent at prices representing approximately a drop of Id to lid for hti-lfibred, id to 3-tl fine cross-bred; 2d shabby crossbred ; Id pieces, etc. The top price this morning was 22i-d for half-bred. MOUNT COOK. TWO SUCCESSFUL ASCENTS. • T.IMARU, February 4. Mount Cook, 12,349 feet, was climbed on two successive days last week. Aliss Margery Edgar-Jones, Timaru. with two guides, made the ascent in twenty hours under adverse climbing conditions. On her return, Air A. Jackson, of Wellington College, accompanied by two other guides, made the ascent in 141- hours under good conditions. PARTICULARS OF DEATH. WELLINGTON, February 6. Papers by the mail give particulars of the unfortunate deatli of Norman St. Clair Hales, formerly well known in New Zealand, once a prominentamateur actor and singer. He joined the stage in the United States. He attended a. private function at the Fire Brigade Station in AVest 58th Street, New York, on December 31st-, and accidentally fell down a- pole hole. Another man vainly tried to rescue- him. but also fell on top of him. At that moment a fire call came and Hales was carried into the street to await an ambulance. There lie was found dead by a policeman before it arrived. ARBITRATION COURT. WELLINGTON, Fob. 5. As no other nominations were received for the position of employers’ representative and Deputy on the Court of Arbitration, Air Louis John Schmitt (at present Advisory Accountant to the Department of Industries and Commerce) is to be appointed as the nominated Member, and Air Sydney Evelyn Wright as the acting nominated member. INQUEST. j OmUSTCmURiCH, Feh. 4. The inquest into the death of A.'iss Annie Paterson, aged 58 vents, of 217 Linwood Avenue, who was found dead with her head and shoulders m a barrel containing water, was concluded before the Coroner, Air H. A. Young. Dr James Carmichael Pairman gave evidence that about 8.45 a.m. he saw the body of the deceased lying on the ground near an open water bairel ii. the backyard of ,Alr Logies House, 21 7 Lin wood Avenue. He was of Hie opinion that she must have had an attack of giddiness, and fallen into the barrel. All the symptoms wore those of deatli by drowning. She had been feeling rather giddy in the morning. The Coroner “eturne! <i verdict of accidental death by drowning. FEILDING A. AND P. M I OAT. FEILDING", Feb. 5. The Feilding Show opened in fine weather. 'The exhibits show a falling off in number, but the quality is good. The Jersey cattle and Southdown sheep are particularly good. The Romneys probably are not up to the jicvious standard.
