DEATH SENTENCE
CONDEMNED MAN. (United Press Association— By Ekvtrw Telegrnph—Copyright). LONDON, Feb. 4. The condemned man, Joseph Clarke, whose sentence was cabled this morning, has had a remarkable career. He is a brilliant scholar, and be declared, upon his return a year ago from America, where he had attended a University, that he did not intend to work, as he had found that lie was able to hypnotise girls. Clarke had carried out his plan- so successfully that lie was Icing furnished with money from one g’il in Nova Scotia (Canada), and from another girl in England. Clarke wrote appealing letters to these'girls, declaring that be was sick and in bed, while he actually was carrying on flirtations with senes of other girls. His letters were spieud illy phrased, anil they included vorr.es which revealed Clarke’s poetic fancy. Clarke is stated to have been v< ry friendly with over one hundred girls in the Midlands of England.
