THE SOUTHERN CROSS
THE PROPOSED FLY. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, February 6. L The Press Association is advised with anything like favourable weather i conditions, the flight from Australia to England, which will he commenced possibv at the end of February by Kingsford Smith and Ulm in the Southern Cross, should break Hinkler's record for the distance. Their schedule calls i for a. thirteen days’ journey, making a full allowance for adequate rest and time for refuelling and inspecting the machine. Sonic of the aerodromes which they will however, are not entirely suitable for a machine of the size and the carrying capacity of the Southern Cross,_ except under favourable weather conditions and it is quite probable that unsuitable weather may mean delays at one or two points, which will upset the schedule. , On the other hand given most ourahlo conditions throughout, it 1 A'V possible the journey may he accoin- A plished in less than thirteen days, but’ this is rather a possibility than n AA/* probability. PROPOSED COURSE. WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. It is the intention of the aviators to cross Australia in one flight, starting from the aerodrome at Point Cook. Melbourne. If permsision is obtained the hop off from Australia will he at ... point between Port fledland and ; Wyiidliam. The most suitable locality is now being investigated. Singapore will be the next- call and the last, stages will be Baghdad to Rome aiupy Rome to London. \ The aviators are hard at work securing all necessary information. They point out that the flight is not primarily to attempt to eclipse Hinkler's wonderful record, hut is purely a commercial undertaking.
